The Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League is proud to have provided the winners for three of Nottinghamshire FA's cup competitions this season. Not only that but two of the finals were all-NSL affairs and the Junior Cup semi-final stage was exclusively populated by our clubs.
First of all Mansfield Hosiery Mills, from Division Two were triumphant over Awsworth Villa Reserves, a Division One side, in the Junior Cup final in mid-April. Having raced into a 4-1 lead Mansfield appeared to be in control of the match but Awsworth made a fight of it at the start of the second half as they pulled it back to 4-3. The Millers bounced back immediately, however, as they added a fifth to see out the tie and take the trophy. Aslockton Cranmers, in their inaugural season of senior football in Division Two faced AC Wollaton of the Notts Amateur Alliance in the Minor Cup final. Two goals in three minutes around the half hour mark put Aslockton in control and they added another without reply after the break to take the tie 3-0. The Intermediate Cup final saw two Premier Division sides pit their wits against one another as AFC Dunkirk took on Basford United Community. Basford took an early lead but the match was turned on its head in the space of three minutes midway through the first half as Dunkirk netted three times. Community regained their composure after the break and scored twice to level matters. However, in a dramatic finale, Dunkirk were awarded a penalty which they duly dispatched to earn them the trophy with a 4-3 win. Congratulations to our three winners but also to the runners-up for providing three entertaining cup finals. The former England manager was held in high regard throughout the footballing world and was an ambassador for the league sponsors, Precision Training. The Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League is proud to be working with the Nottinghamshire FA on referee development in the county. The NSL has partnered with In-Play Sports to film and analyse a number of fixtures during the season that can then be used in coaching sessions with the match officials involved, as well as in referee development more generally. The first such match is the Premier Division fixture between AFC Dunkirk and Nottingham Trent University on Tuesday evening at the Ron Steel Sports Ground.
It is believed to be a unique initiative for a league at Step 7 of the National League System. Dave Plowright, Head Coach of the Nottinghamshire FA Core Referees Group and level 3 referee, will be representing the County FA on Tuesday and has commented that “Filming and reviewing officials’ performances has proved priceless in higher levels of the game in recent times and it is exciting to be able to share this opportunity with Nottinghamshire’s referees”. As a mark of respect following the recent untimely passing of Shaw Lane defender Daniel Wilkinson, who collapsed during a cup game at Brighouse Town's St Giles Road stadium, there will be a minute's silence observed before all Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League games this weekend.
