The race for the title in the Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division remains a tough one to call after leaders West Bridgford went down 2-0 at Wollaton. Sean Green and Aidan Brady got the goals for last season’s champions. Although Bridgford are ten points clear they have played six more games than Ruddington Village, who moved up to second following a 2-1 home win against Bilborough Town. Matt Carver put the hosts ahead from a corner before Jake Kane struck back for Town. Danny Starbuck sealed the points for Village with a second half solo effort. Clifton All Whites slipped to third after being beaten 2-0 by AFC Dunkirk. The visitors scored either side of half-time through Sam Harbottle and Kamran Frost. Following a nine goal thriller in the Senior Cup the previous week, there wasn’t much to choose between the two sides again as Awsworth Villa met Unity in the league this time. Tyrell Shannon-Lewis gave Unity a 1-0 half-time lead but strikes from Ryan Whitehurst and Matt Goodwin for Villa and a second for Shannon-Lewis meant the points were shared in a 2-2 draw. Real United remained fifth with a 4-1 win against Attenborough. Real’s top scorer, Tim Hopkinson, netted twice, alongside efforts from Kuwesi Ofushine and Theodore Smith; Jordan Dakin got Boro’s consolation. Having drawn a couple of weeks ago it was a close fought encounter again between Beeston and Burton Joyce. This time BJ ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a Marc Buckle brace. Patrick Shiggins notched for Beeston. A William Cox penalty put Sandhurst ahead at home to Bingham Town but the visitors struck back through Kieran Wall – his first goal for the club – to claim a 1-1 draw. FC Cavaliers came from behind to win 3-1 at Underwood Villa. Ash Foster put the home side ahead early on but two goals in two minutes from Mustapha John and Ako Abdullah turned the match in Cavs’ favour. David Kolapo rounded off the scoring just before the break. Newark Flowserve’s unbeaten start under Stephen Kirkham continued. Having knocked Cotgrave out of the Senior Cup in mid-February they were 3-0 winners against them in the league this time. Daryl Price (2) and Joe Hurst were the scorers. In Division One, South Normanton Town extended their lead to nine points with a 6-0 win over Clifton All Whites Reserves. Shaun Smith and Ben Roffey both netted twice alongside John Fones and Josh Thompson efforts. Second-place Magdala Amateurs slipped up at home to Bilborough United, going down 2-0. Rob England and James Hunt did the damage for United. Mark Middleton scored the only goal of the game for Wollaton Reserves away at Hucknall Rolls Leisure Reserves. Ruddington Village Reserves, in fourth, moved within a point of Hucknall with a 2-1 win at Kirton Brickworks. Sam Dunstan scored both goals for Rudd; Aaron Norman was on target for The Brickies. Matthew Barrett, Joshua Lewis and Asher Phythian put Kimberley Miners Welfare three up away at Ashland Rovers. Ben Goss pulled one back for the hosts in the second half but it wasn’t enough to prevent their opponents leapfrogging them in the table. Ryan Fowler, Frank Oloton and Brent Horton gave Netherfield Albion a 3-0 win over Linby Colliery Welfare Reserves. Nottinghamshire edged past Southwell City Reserves 1-0 through Tyrone Cairns to open up a small gap between themselves and the bottom two. In Division Two, AFC Clifton’s lead is down to one point after they drew 1-1 at Selston Reserves while second-placed Bilsthorpe Reserves won 6-3 at Bilborough United Reserves. Keyworth United scored all 12 goals in their 11-1 win at Bilborough Town Reserves and there were hat-tricks for Nick Richards and Kyle Waddell for Cotgrave Reserves in their 8-0 victory over Nottinghamshire Reserves. Watnall Athletic were 5-3 winners against Awsworth Villa Reserves and Aspley Park Reserves won 3-2 at Underwood Villa Reserves. In the Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division, leaders West Bridgford will attempt to bounce back from their first loss in 2016 last week as they travel to the WSA to face Wollaton. Abou Sylla returns from suspension and Wayne Jones and Joe Nice are available following injury for Bridgford. Last year’s champions Wollaton come into the game on the back of two league draws.

Jay Archer put Town ahead after 15 minutes before Bridgford’s top scorer, Jurgen Charlesworth, levelled matters. John Morley restored Bingham’s lead before a Tom Spencer free-kick eluded everyone to take them in at the break 3-1 up. Pat Newsome pulled one back for the home side to make it an interesting last quarter of an hour but the points were secured for Bingham when Spencer was brought down in the box and he dispatched the resultant penalty himself with three minutes remaining. Clifton All Whites closed the gap at the top to 11 points with two games in hand after they beat Beeston 2-1. Beeston took the lead on 21 minutes but Clifton struck back either side of half-time through Jake Richardson and Craig Meakin. Sam Winch’s first half strike was sufficient for Ruddington Village to see off Attenborough for the second time in as many weeks. The win leaves Rudd in third, 13 points off the top but, crucially, with six games in hand over West Bridgford. Wollaton went two up at home to Burton Joyce thanks to Will Heath and Sean Green but BJ hit back through Tom Lawson and Kieran Fenton to claim a 2-2 draw. Newark Flowserve continued their unbeaten run since Stephen Kirkham took over the reins as they secured their first league win of the season – 1-0 versus AFC Dunkirk – thanks to a Joe Hurst cross-cum-shot on the half hour mark. Cotgrave recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time this season with a 1-0 victory over FC Cavaliers. Jordan Laird was the scorer. In a scintillating NSL Senior Cup quarter-final Awsworth Villa edged past Unity 5-4 after extra-time. Ryan Whitehurst was the hero for Villa netting four times. Awsworth equalised in the 89th minute to take the tie into extra-time at 3-3 then claimed the winner in the 120th. In Division One, South Normanton Town extended their lead to six points with a 3-0 win at Southwell City Reserves. Ruddington Village Reserves bounced back from a 5-0 defeat the previous weekend to record a win by the same margin at Gedling Southbank. Mark Greensmith scored for Notts, Brett Soiza for Clifton. In Division Two, Keyworth United Reserves were the day’s biggest winners – 8-0 versus Bilborough Town Reserves. Selston Reserves took a 2-0 lead into the break at home against Bulwell Reserves. The visitors drew level midway through the second half but two goals in the final two minutes for Selston gave them the 4-2 win. Clifton All Whites, in second, also came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw. A Jamie Spiers double put Real United two up by the break but Clifton pulled level within 10 minutes of the restart thanks to Scott Litchfield and Tristram Whitman. Beeston moved their match with league leaders West Bridgford to the artificial surface of Gresham Park in order to make sure it went ahead. Ultimately the match was settled in the first five minutes when West Bridgford’s leading scorer, Jurgen Charlesworth, volleyed home a cross from the left. Despite hitting the woodwork in the second half and having an effort cleared off the line the Red & Blacks couldn’t extend their lead. The 1-0 victory opens the gap at the top of the table to 14 points although West Bridgford have played at least two more games than the chasing pack. The other match was lower down the table as Sandhurst clocked up an unwanted century – they have now conceded 100 league goals as they went down 2-0 at FC Cavaliers. Ako Abdullah scored both of Cavs’ goals in the second half, keeping his team 13th; Sandhurst stay in 15th. There was one match in Division One on Friday night.
