Having sealed the Precision NSL Senior Division title the previous weekend, Wollaton’s season went out with a bit of a whimper as they lost 3-1 at Bilborough Town.
Bilborough took full advantage of the fact that Wollaton were missing nine regular first teamers as Nicky Law netted a hat-trick before Anthony Atkins pulled one back for the visitors. West Bridgford secured second place as they brought the curtain down on bottom club Kirton Brickworks’ miserable season with a 10-3 victory. Chris Atkins scored a double hat-trick for Bridgford, in addition to goals from Wayne Jones (2), Mitchell Slawson and Tom Coole. On the plus side for The Brickies, strikes from Daniel Hall, Scott Ricketts and an own goal meant it was the first time they had scored three in a match since the end of November. Sandhurst’s 2-1 loss to Awsworth Villa confirmed they will finish in the second relegation position as they are four points adrift of Beeston in 14th with only one game left to play. After being reduced to ten men just before the break, Awsworth scored two second half goals through Josh Deakin and Sam Hallsworth. Substitute Lewis Batchelor halved the deficit for Sandhurst but it was too little too late. Cotgrave boosted their chances of finishing in third place by overcoming incumbents Selston 3-1. An Adam Gray double and one from Jordan Cumberland took them to within one point of their opponents with one game left. Gary Breach netted for Selston. A Sam Buckle brace helped Burton Joyce round off their season with a 5-1 win over PMG Cavaliers. Troy Smith, Ryan Clements and Danny Harris added the others; Mustafa Jikineh got Cavs’ consolation. The Division One title was wrapped up by Underwood Villa with a midweek win over Linby Colliery Welfare Reserves, but at the other end of the table Southwell City Reserves gave themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation by recording their first league win since October – 4-1 at home to Nottinghamshire. Matthew Johnson put City ahead before Charlie Wand conjured up two more goals. Notts pulled one back via a Simon Betts free-kick before Southwell substitute Chase Marcham restored the three goal lead. Ruddington Village Reserves won by the odd goal in five away at Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves. Sam Dunstan and Tom Stanley (2) did the damage for Village, Ethan Winfield and Connor Wren replied for Kimberley. Linby bounced back from their midweek defeat to the division champions with a 4-1 win over Gedling Southbank. Luke Price (2), Ruban Mitchell and Joe Butler were on target for Linby; James Needham got Southbank’s consolation. Bottom club Awsworth Villa Reserves kept their season alive with a 6-5 victory over Hucknall Rolls Leisure Reserves. Kimberley Miners Welfare AFC took over top spot in Division Two with a 7-1 win over Calverton Miners Welfare. The title will be decided on Tuesday night (5 May) when Kimberley travel to FC Samba and second-placed Aspley Park host Ashland Rovers Reserves. Keyworth United Reserves won 2-0 away at AFC Clifton.
