In the Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League, supported by Euro Soccer Company, the Senior Cup got underway with holders Southwell City safely through to the next round following a 2-1 win at Wollaton. Bradley Peace-McDonald put City ahead from the spot after Thomas Robinson was brought down in the box early in the second half. Calum Law doubled the advantage less than ten minutes later when he blocked a clearance by the Wollaton keeper and it rebounded into the net. Wollo pulled one back almost immediately with a penalty of their own, converted by Joshua Stevenson; there wee late chances at either end but ultimately there were no further goals.
Gedling Southbank sniffed an upset when Joshua Cranny put them one up at home to Bingham Town but the Premier Division side struck back through Jake Hardy and Tom Spencer to make it through 2-1. West Bridgford took the lead too, away at AFC Dunkirk, but the superior talents of the higher ranked side came to the fore in the second half as they eventually ran out 7-2 winners. In other all-Premier Division ties, goals from Cameron Marsh (2), Nathan Francis and Ricky Gardner saw the league leaders Burton Joyce ease past Eastwood CFC Development 4-0. Aslockton & Orston took a three goal lead at Bilborough Town through Pierce Hallam, James Langridge and Jack Robb. Shea Gough reduced the arrears for Town but it was too little too late. Keyworth United knocked out Cotgrave 3-0 thanks to Jake Fisher, Cameron Gray and Ryan Tinsley while FC Cavaliers edged out Magdala Amateurs 2-1 with goals from Siraj Chitulu and Arnyda Wenazo, Ffion Coffey replying for The Budgies. In the matches that pitted Division One sides against one another there were goals aplenty at Hucknall Town Development as AFC Top Valley came away with a 7-4 win. There were two goals each for Top Valley for Jake Gunn, Joe Gunn and Ben Cummings and one for Raymond Xavier. There were also braces for Isaac Anderson and Kai Boultby for Hucknall. It took extra time for Ruddington Village to prevail at Ravenshead. It was 1-1 at full time but the visitors scored twice to The Ravens once in the extra period. Joseph Brown, Daniel Neary and Ross Cochrane-Smith were the Rudd scorers, Mark Yates with both for Ravenshead. In the solitary Premier Division match Awsworth Villa made it three matches unbeaten with a 2-2 draw with Woodthorpe Park Rangers. Villa took a two goal lead through Daniel Morgan and Kyle Nutt but they were pegged back by a brace from Connor Scott-Parkin. In the Junior Cup, Pythian saw off Wollaton Reserves 5-3 with help from a Michael Lindsay hat-trick while Adam Hassell scored four for Stapleford Town Reserves in their extra-time 6-2 win over Southwell City Reserves and Barrowby knocked out Bilborough Town Community 3-0. In Division One, Radcliffe Olympic made it three wins on the trot, 5-3 against Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves, and there were two goals apiece for Abdul-Raheem Sunmonu and Martin McDonagh for Radford Reserves in their 6-2 win over Kirton Brickworks. In Division Two, Keyworth United Reserves closed the gap to Cotgrave Reserves at the top of the table by beating them 5-1. Ruddington Village Reserves are up to third after their 6-2 defeat of Bingham Town Reserves. Asha won 2-0 against United Grays with both goals from Samuel Taylor, remarkably the second of which came after he’d taken over as goalkeeper following an injury to starting number one, James Fletcher, lobbing his opposite number with a kick from inside his own penalty area! AFC Dunkirk Reserves came from behind to win 3-1 at Elston United and Ravenshead Reds won 4-2 at Beeston Old Boys Association. In the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Trophy Clifton All Whites were knocked out by AFC Villa, 3-2 after extra time. Comments are closed.
