In the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division, with leaders Newark Flowserve not in action Cotgrave consolidated second place with a 1-0 win over Basford United Community. It was their second clean sheet in as many matches so Ben Castell’s strike was sufficient to see them to the three points.
Wollaton are up to third after they edged past Awsworth Villa 3-2. Jake Fisher opened the scoring for Wollaton against the run of play after a quarter of an hour but on the stroke of half time Villa got their just deserts with a John Whitehurst equaliser. Fisher put his side back ahead not long after the restart, when he was brought down in the area following a counter attack, and he stepped up to convert the resultant penalty himself. Whitehurst repeated his earlier feat with 20 minutes remaining to level matters but Liam Towle finally sealed the win for Wollaton with a deflected shot on 81 minutes. Magdala Amateurs saw off Southwell City 2-0. The game was scoreless after an even first half but on 56 minutes Southwell weren’t awake to a Magdala short corner and Neil Morgan was allowed a free header to put his side ahead. With a quarter of an hour remaining Morgan created space in the box to fire home his and The Budgies’ second. Rory Green and Zac Harrison put Sandiacre Town two up at home to Calverton Miners Welfare but the visitors hit back through Mason Bramwell, Brinsley Kirkham, debutant Oliver Clarke and an own goal to take the win 4-2. On Friday evening George Bosworth struck a hat-trick and there were two goals apiece for Lorcan Hickey and Brett Soiza as AFC Dunkirk saw off Ruddington Village. Danny Blanchard and Lukas James with Rudd’s replies. Also on Friday, Gedling Southbank dispatched Bingham Town 4-2 with goals from Thomas Jeffries (2), Raheem Suban and Nick Edgar. Tom Spencer scored both of Bingham’s goals, one from the penalty spot and one in the dying seconds of the match. Bilborough Town bowed out of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup at the hands of last season’s NSL champions, now of the East Midlands Counties League, Clifton All Whites. Liam Taylor (2) and Ellis Williamson netted for Bilborough but they went down 6-3. In the Notts FA Intermediate Cup it took extra-time and penalties to separate two NSL sides, Underwood Villa and FC Cavaliers. It was 1-1 at full time, 2-2 after extra time with Cavs eventually prevailing 4-2 from the spot. Elsewhere, in a replay of last season’s NSL Junior Cup final, Kimberley Miners Welfare AFC got their own back on Awsworth Villa Reserves, winning 3-2, and Attenborough came away from Welbeck Lions, of the Central Midlands League, with a 4-0 win. In Division One, Keyworth United Reserves missed the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Netherfield Albion as they lost 2-1 at home to Beeston Rylands. Lee Fowler and Thomas Johnson were on target for Beeston. Stapleford Town moved up to third with their third win on the trot, 4-1 against Wollaton Reserves. Junior Rodriguez (2), Rikki Turner and Mitchell Robinson scoring for Stapleford, Roy Killeavy for Wollaton. AFC Bridgford have now only lost one in four as they drew 2-2 at Ashland Rovers. Alex England and Paul Revuelta netted for Ashland, Jon Spencer and Michael Randles for Bridgford. Also drawing were Kirton Brickworks and Mansfield Hosiery Mills as Jamie Parrish for Kirton and Aaron Turner for Mansfield saw the meeting end 1-1. Bilborough United leapfrogged their opponents, Ravenshead, with a 4-3 win. Joel Buxton bagged a brace for United, alongside Leigh Daykin and Samue Freeman efforts. Paul Smith scored two in reply for the Ravens in addition to a Mark Smallwood strike. Ruddington Village Reserves lifted themselves off the foot of the table with a 2-1 win over Southwell City Reserves who replace them in last place. In Division Two, there were two goals each for Nathan Francis, Kory Simms and Liam Moore in Bridgford United’s 7-0 win at Gedling Southbank Reserves that sees them move up to second in the table. Tyler Martin scored a hat-trick as Newark Flowserve Reserves saw off Sneinton Town 4-0 and Charlie Fraser did likewise for Burton Joyce in their 5-0 victory over Welbeck Lions Reserves. Southwell City Development drew 1-1 with Underwood Villa Reserves while Keyworth United Development beat AFC Clifton 2-0. Kirton Brickworks Reserves won 3-1 against Magdala Amateurs Reserves.
