Dunkirk’s youth team had to beat Matlock Town, Ilkeston, Lincoln City and Alfreton Town just to reach the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup. They then added a Football League team to their list of scalps as they defeated Coventry City 3-2 in extra-time with 10 men to set up a tie with Mansfield Town in round two.
With a number of the players also featuring in men’s football for AFC Dunkirk, in the Premier Division of the Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League, joint managers Craig Clark and Dave Robinson are hoping they can draw on this experience when they travel to the One Call Stadium on Tuesday evening, 15 November, kick off 7.45pm. The second round is already further than Dunkirk have progressed in the competition before but they won’t be going to Mansfield to make up the numbers as they attempt to keep their record-breaking adventure going.
